Barrels are a gorilla's best friend!

(map 1) (map 2)
One more Nintendo tribute to share with you folks.

In Un'Goro Crater, as well as Sholazar Basin now, the gorilla mobs there occasionally drop "barrels" when they are killed. This is a reference to another Nintendo classic character, Donkey Kong, a gorilla who goes around using barrels either as modes of transportation, weapons, etc...

These items are considered "junk" in game, though I really wish we were able to throw these barrels ourselves...

...OR it would've been cool if hunter pet gorillas had "Throw Barrels" as a unique species ability. Yeah "Thunderstomp" is all well and good, but c'mon! You know as well as I do that you'd totally trade that for the ability to lob a big wooden barrel at your opponent.

Because "Legend of Zelda" homages are AWESOME!

(map)

Another Nintendo tribute there in Un'Goro Crater aims at one of the major gaming icons the company has. Anyone who has ever played on an NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gamecube, Nintendo DS, or the Wii has at least heard of the "Legend of Zelda."

Here in Marshall's Refuge you can find a cloaked, hooded gnome by the name of Linken. He is a part of a lengthy quest chain that is a total tribute to the Legend of Zelda game. The chain actually doesn't start with Linken. In order to start the chain, you need to find a sunken boat at this location. Finding the pack there opens up a quest called "It's a Secret to Everyone."

For any Legend of Zelda fan, this is a must-do quest chain. It is definitely worth all the flying around the entire world you'll have to do to finish it.

If you go through the lengthy quest, you'll eventually be able to get "Linken's Sword of Mastery" and "Linken's Boomerang."

I always thought those two brothers got along better...

Un'Goro Crater, as well as being populated heavily with dinosaurs of all kinds, is also home to a slew of tributes to Nintendo and their most notable game characters.

Here at Marshall's Refuge, you can find two particular NPCs who are spoofed tributes to Nintendo's most famous game icons. There is a black haired and bearded dwarf dressed in blue and red named Larion, and a green-glad human with brown hair and mustache named Muigin, and both are armed with giant mallets.

Who are they? Well if their images aren't a dead giveaway, I'll give you another hint.

Swap the first letters of each of their names, then remove the "n" from the ends of them.
